What today is about

The global average is one number. Chennai's reality is a different number. Today: bridge them.

Why does regional climate change differ from the global average? Three reasons: ocean heat distribution (oceans absorb most of the excess heat, but unevenly), atmospheric circulation (jet streams + monsoon systems redistribute energy regionally), and land-sea contrasts (land warms faster than ocean). The IPCC's "1.5°C" or "2°C" headlines are global means; the South Asia chapter of IPCC AR6 Working Group I has the actual regional numbers, and they're often higher.

Today is also the day you lock your adaptation challenge. From the 8 you've been considering since Block 5, pick one. By end of block, you have 2 sources gathered + one-line OPVL on each, ready to feed your Climate Brief's Evidence section. The Greater Chennai Corporation Climate Action Plan is your second primary source after IPCC AR6; it's Chennai's official adaptation document.

The first graded component of the rolling summative locks next block (Block 8, feedback diagram, K/U).
