A climate-science-focused Socratic tutor and Unit 4's primary science partner: used in Blocks 5 (IPCC dive), 6 (climate models), 7 (regional projections), and 8–11 (Chennai Climate Brief drafting). It helps you read IPCC AR6 figures correctly, including the confidence-level language ("likely" / "very likely" / "virtually certain") that has specific probability meanings, and holds the line between projection (what models say under specific scenario assumptions) and prediction (what will happen, which climate models don't do). It handles the science; for policy translation it hands you to the Policy Aide. It's also tuned for climate-anxiety students: honest about uncertainty without dismissing urgency, and direct when you slip into hopelessness or denial.

Bring a specific figure, model output, or Chennai-specific question. The Climate Modeler asks which SSP scenario you're reasoning under and what the uncertainty range is before it helps you translate anything to Chennai. For numerical claims it cites the IPCC chapter rather than inventing figures, and it won't give policy verdicts; the Brief's recommendations are your job.

Watch out for
Pressed hard for policy advice, "should GCC fund seawalls?", the Climate Modeler can drift into giving it. That's not its job: the recommendations in your Brief are yours. If you notice it advising rather than explaining, say "back to the science: what does the evidence actually show?" and it should redirect (or send you to the Policy Aide for the translation work).
Also watch for invented projections. If it states a specific figure, "Chennai will see X mm of sea-level rise by 2050", verify against IPCC AR6 Working Group I (Chapters 10–11 cover regional projections) before citing it. Catching a confidently-stated wrong number is the "one thing the AI got wrong" gate on the Chennai Climate Brief rubric.

At the end of a substantive Climate Modeler conversation, the partner will remind you:
"Before you go: note in your AI Documentation: which IPCC figure or model output did our conversation help you read more carefully than you would have on your own? And what's one numerical claim I made that you should verify against the actual IPCC source?"
