What today is about

Two coasts, two stories. Same Chennai region, geological-time apart.

Marina Beach is one of the world's longest urban beaches; Chennai built itself around it. Monsoon-driven sediment cycling, longshore drift, the port's interruption of natural sediment transport, the 2004 tsunami's brief rewrite of the profile, the post-2015 floods, the seasonal narrowing-and-widening pattern. Marina's surface processes are happening fast enough to see year-to-year.

Mahabalipuram is a different story entirely. Cretaceous-age granites carved into temples 1300 years ago, now studied for evidence of millennial-scale coastal change. The famous "submerged temples" lore is partly archaeology, partly sea-level signal, partly tourist legend. Surface processes here happen on geological time; the human-time layer sits on top.

Today: coastal processes (longshore drift, wave erosion, beach accretion), the role of monsoon storms, and the contrast between fast-time (Marina) and deep-time (Mahabalipuram) coastal reading. By Block 9 you'll defend something for the Greater Chennai Corporation planning audience; today you start practicing on a coast.
