Five real-world scenarios modeled on documented tectonic settings: Tōhoku (subduction megathrust), Anatolian / Istanbul (transform), Merapi (stratovolcano), Cascadia (subduction), and Hawaii (hotspot shield). Pick a scenario, spend a fixed budget on housing, hospitals, schools, and engineering technologies (base isolation, tsunami walls, early-warning systems, lahar diversion). Run the simulation (a real disaster strikes) and the data tells you which decisions saved lives.
Sessions auto-log not yet live
Every attempt is scored on the spot, but the Sessions Sheet that would auto-log your attempts to your Google account isn't deployed yet. For now, screenshot your final score, grade, and budget used from the debrief into your engineering journal after each iteration. The auto-logging is on the way and will replace the manual step when it ships.

Where this fits in the unit
- Block 2: teacher-led Tōhoku demo. No student gameplay yet.
- Block 4: first independent attempt (everyone on Tōhoku).
- Blocks 6, 7, 9, 10: iterations on your chosen scenario for the Engineering Portfolio.
- Blocks 11–12: final defenses based on your iteration data.
Before your first run
- Have your Hazard Profile open; you'll reference its boundary identification and dominant hazards in your engineering journal.
- Open your engineering journal (any format: typed, voice memo with auto-transcription, paired). Predict before you run, reflect after.
- Skim the rubric; the Engineering Portfolio criteria are what your iteration evidence gets scored on.
